Hell's Kitchen season 23 episode 5: Top 3 moments from Homesick in Hell
Since the fifth episode of Hell’s Kitchen: Head Chefs Only was released on Thursday, I decided to change the format this week and go into the top 3 moments because they mean a lot to the contestants and their storylines to head into the next several episodes. So here are the top 3 moments of episode 5 of Hell’s Kitchen: Head Chefs Only
Kyle Loses Twice to Lose the Burger Challenge for the Blue Team
This episode’s challenge had both teams prepare burgers using different kinds of meat. The challenge involved both teams gathering ingredients from papers and sticking them on order rotators.
With the Blue Team having six members, Kyle decided to step up and make two burgers: the lamb and dry-age beef burgers. Because Kyle had a lot more work, he made a crucial mistake when plating his dry-aged beef burger. While presenting his burger to Hamburger America owner George Motz, Kyle realized after time was up, he forgot to put his chutney on his dry-age beef burger, which allowed Brittany to get the point for the Red Team. Kyle did have a chance to redeem himself with his lamb burger. While the lamb burger was great and had nothing wrong with it, Whit’s burger was just a little better, which allowed Motz to award the Red Team the victors of the challenge.
Kyle was so frustrated and upset, not only because of the challenge but also because he saw the women celebrate getting HexClad cookware as part of the reward. Feeling upset, he went into the rooms to get his emotions out, and Meghan was friendly enough to go and comfort him.
Egypt’s Talk with Chef Ramsay
Egypt’s run on Hell’s Kitchen has been rough. He’s been nominated twice already; his teammates don’t seem to get along with him, and to top it all off, he misses his daughter at home.
During the punishment, Egypt didn’t like how his team was joking around and laughing throughout it instead of taking it seriously. While talking with Joe, he gets emotional about not seeing his daughter, which makes him question if the competition is worth it, and he starts to think about leaving. When Ramsay lined up both teams for dinner service, Egypt raised his hand and said he would leave the competition.
When Ramsay brought him to the storage room, he claimed he knew precisely what Egypt was going through. Ramsay says that he has a newborn that he won’t be able to see for two months, and it is excruciating to think about. Ramsay doesn’t know why the Blue Team is picking on him, and Ramsay exclaims that he believes in him, which is why he hasn’t sent him home yet, and says he deserves to be here. Egypt claims tearfully that he doesn’t want to leave, and Ramsay agrees. Ramsay tells him to focus on himself and his family, and Egypt returns to the kitchen and tells his team he isn’t leaving.
Nobody Goes Home
Both teams needed to win badly in this dinner service, and for the most part, the dinner service went well for both teams. Both teams made very few errors all night. The mistake made by the Red Team was the lack of communication on appetizers by Whit, who was quiet most of the night and dropped the scallops too early, which meant Meghan wasn’t ready, which made Chef Ramsay pull them to the side. Ramsay asked Whit if she wanted to go home, and she replied no, so Ramsay told her and Meghan to communicate better.
The only mistake Joe made in the Blue kitchen was on the garnish; they set up an ice-cold slider due to rushing. However, the rest of the night went smoothly, with both teams serving their diners appetizers, entrées and desserts. Two customers even proposed that night. At the end of service, Ramsay named both teams the winners, and nobody was eliminated from this episode.
