Hell's Kitchen: Head Chefs episode 8 recap: Only Get A Clue!
This week's episode of Hell's Kitchen had two very big moments, that were the main highlights of the episode, so let's look at the main moments in the episode "Get a Clue".
So, I decided to change the format again this week. I want to discuss the central moments in this week’s episode, “Get a Clue!” and how they were crucial for the blue team and two chefs, Egypt and Anthony.
Lulu’s Dish over Egypt’s Cost the Blue Team the Challenge
We’ve already seen what happens this season when one chef’s dish gets chosen over another, like what we saw two weeks ago when the Red Team chose Brittany’s pasta dish over Whit. The same thing also happened in this episode, which featured a challenge that saw the chefs putting random ingredients on different proteins. When the Blue Team had to decide on which dish they would drop, the team decided to use Lulu’s airline chicken dish with corn and Yukon gold potato gnocchi over Egypt’s sweet heat-grilled porkchop with an arugula chimichurri and an avocado mousse with brown butter parsnips.
When Ramsay tasted Lulu’s chicken dish, Ramsay reclaimed that the gnocchi was wet, which ruined the dish despite the chicken being cooked beautifully. It got even worse for the Blue Team when only two dishes earned points: Kyle with his airline chicken with potato risotto and Joe with his angel hair-herb-crusted cod with the middle featuring a pilaf of rice and zucchini. Thanks to Hannah’s citrus butter poached cod with a warm asparagus soup and eggplant ash, Britanny’s parmesan crusted chicken cutlet with tomato bruschetta, and Whit’s pork chop grilled with garam masala butter, featuring an apple bourbon chutney, a cauliflower pureé and roasted cauliflower with sauteed broccolini, the red team went on to win the challenge.
When Ramsay asked to taste Egypt’s porkchop, he liked it so much that he asked the Blue Team over to show how juicy it was, saying it deserved two points.
Anthony’s Sudden and Fast Collapse Sends Him Home
Eight episodes into this season, Anthony seemed to be a front-runner in the competition. He excelled in the challenges and dinner services. However, this episode saw him go on one of the worst collapses in the show’s history in one episode.
It started on a sad note in terms of emotions, as this episode saw Anthony explain to the viewers at home and his team that he had suffered through stage 3 and 4 oral cancer twice in his life at age 21 when he got his first executive chef position. Anthony went on to explain that during one service, he had pain radiating everywhere from his jaws, gums, and brain. After going into remission for a month, it came back more robust, so he had to get chest surgery, but thankfully survived to be in Hell’s Kitchen. However, despite his fantastic journey, this episode saw him make two big mistakes in the whole episode.
First, in the challenge, he made a dish resembling a creole-style porkchop, with parsnip and andouille sausage and an arugula salad with an avocado and arugula vinaigrette. However, when Ramsay tasted it, he explained it was a weird combination, with the avocado and the parsnip puree fighting a big fight, which earned him no points. Later, Anthony and Lulu, Amanda, Ann Marie, and Brandon would have to earn their spot to remain in the competition in a cook for your life challenge.
When Ramsay asked them to make one entrée with lobster, Anthony seemed confident, saying he wanted to prove that senior living chefs could cook. However, when he showed his poached lobster with chanterelle couscous to Ramsay, the biggest mistake of the dish came when Ramsay found the feather blade from the lobster in the dish, which, if no one noticed while eating, could’ve had a person choking on it. That feather blade ended up costing him a spot to continue in the competition; however, Ramsay allowed him to keep his jacket.
