Danielle using the Power of Veto on Dan in Big Brother 14

On Big Brother 13, we saw another questionable move, or two, when Danielle Murphree used the PoV on Dan Gheesling, after some convincing from the unanimous BB10 winner to use it on him as he sat on the block next to eventual winner Ian Terry.

What happened next? Shane Meaney was the only possible replacement on the block as the show was at the Final 4, so Dan proceeded to put Danielle’s game partner up, and having the only vote to evict, Dan shocked Danielle and voted Shane out over Ian and Danielle’s mouth opened up wide in surprise in an iconic show moment and an historic blindside.

This decision was huge on many levels. First, if Dan votes Ian out, he never wins the game. But Dan knew that the jury was against him for all of the blood he had on his hands from the game. Second, if Danielle never used the veto on Dan, it could have paved the way for a Danielle-Shane Final 2.

So Ian ended up winning the $500,000, Dan finished as runner-up and took home the $50,000, and Danielle and Shane blew a very big chance to get to the end together.

The Bottom Line: If Danielle leaves Dan on the block, she and Shane would have been in the Final 3 and potentially had the chance to vote out Ian and be the Final 2, with one winning $500,000 and the other $50,000. Her not trusting Shane 100 percent and planting the seed in Dan’s head enabled him to talk her into using the PoV on him.

Cody taking Derrick to Final 2 on Big Brother 16

One of the best duos in Big Brother history was The Hitmen alliance on Big Brother 16 between Derrick Levasseur and Cody Calafiore, with Derrick winning the season and the $500,000 and Cody taking home the $50,000 runner-up prize.

But on Day 97 in the Final 3, Cody won the final HoH and had a chance to take Victoria Rafaeli, but the younger brother of BB18 player Paulie Calafiore decided to remain loyal to Derrick and took him to the Final 2 where Derrick beat Cody by a 7 to 2 jury vote.

If Cody would have chosen to take Victoria, odds are he likely would have had a unanimous vote to win the season—which he eventually did when he came back and won Big Brother 22.

So the former Temple soccer star essentially made a $450,000 decision to be a good friend and settle for $50,000 when he could have made the simple move and won half a million dollars.

But we have seen it before with loyal teammates like Evel Dick and Daniele Donato back in Big Brother 8 and this past season, that remaining true to that one game partner who helped get you to the end is often more morally and ethically wise than worrying about winning the money in the end.

"“If I would have taken Victoria and Derrick walked away with nothing, it would have almost been like I cheated him out of an entire game that he pretty much helped me get to the Final 2.” —Cody Calafiore"

The Bottom Line: If Cody takes Victoria to Final 2, he wins the $500,000. It’s simple.
