Minh-Ly’s game got off to a rocky start. A twist saw Canada vote to keep their favorites safe from eviction in week 1. There would be no Head of Household. Instead, the four people with the fewest votes were in jeopardy of leaving and would have three chances to save themselves: a physical competition, a mental competition, and through their social game. Minh-Ly was one of the four people put in jeopardy of being evicted the first week. However, Minh-Ly surprised everyone by winning the physical competition.

The final two nominees that week were Nico Vera and Susanne Fuda. Susanne was able to rally the numbers in her favor. Seeing the writing on the wall, Nico wanted to self-evict. However, Minh-Ly tried to rally votes to save him. However, all Minh-Ly’s campaigning did was put a huge target on her back. Ultimately, Nico chose to self-evict. Elsewhere during the week, Minh-Ly began flirting with Jamar Lee in what would become the weirdest showmance in Big Brother Canada history.

In week 2, Chris Wyllie won HOH and wanted to backdoor Micheal Stubley. Minh-Ly told Chris she would be a decoy target for members of Micheal’s alliance (Madeline Di Nunzio, Rianne Swanson, and John Luke Kieper) to ensure that everyone would use the POV that week. However, Minh-Ly told Vanessa Clements that she wanted Kyle Rozendal out next. Given she was in an alliance with Kyle, Vanessa told Kyle about this new information and he told Chris, making Minh-Ly a possible backdoor option that week.

Chris ultimately nominated Brooke Warnock and Hira Deol as his pawns. Hira won the POV to save himself that week. Chris went through with his original plan to backdoor Micheal and Minh-Ly dodged a bullet. Before the week was over, Minh-Ly was able to plant seeds with Micheal that led to Micheal calling out Kyle in front of everyone. Micheal was evicted that week 9-3.

In week 3, Sheldon Jean won HOH and targeted Minh-Ly for a possible backdoor. He nominated Madeline and Rianne as pawns since they had been members of Micheal’s alliance. In a twist, each player selected to compete in the POV that week was able to pick a partner to compete with them. The player selected by random draw would win the POV while the person picked by the player chosen by random draw would win immunity. Minh-Ly was selected to play in the competition by random draw and picked Vanessa as her partner.

Since Sheldon was targeting Minh-Ly for a backdoor, he asked Vanessa to throw the POV competition. This did not sit well with Vanessa and she told Minh-Ly about being asked to throw the POV, blaming Brooke for it. Minh-Ly told others about this and word eventually got back to Kyle, Brooke, and Sheldon (members of Vanessa’s alliance). They confronted Vanessa about what she did and Vanessa denied everything, pushing the blame on Minh-Ly.

Madeline ended up winning the POV, while her partner John Luke earned immunity. Needing a replacement nominee, Sheldon nominated Minh-Ly.

Minh-Ly and Jamar were frustrated by what happened and Minh-Ly confronted Vanessa to find out if Vanessa was behind the lies being spread about her. However, Minh-Ly got nowhere with Vanessa and so she called a house meeting to get to the bottom of it. During the meeting, Jamar’s actions crossed the line and made Kyle and Vanessa feel uncomfortable. As a result, Jamar was expelled from the game. Two days after the meeting, Kyle was also expelled from the game for what production deemed “a pattern of problematic behavior.” As a result of the expulsions, Big Brother Canada cancelled the eviction and made Sheldon eligible to compete for HOH. Minh-Ly lived to see another week.

In week 4, Sheldon won HOH and once again targeted Minh-Ly for eviction. However, Carol Rosher informed Sheldon of her desires to be evicted on Thursday. Sheldon struggled with the idea of losing out on another HOH reign because Carol was holding the house hostage with her desires to leave. Others were also not on board to give Carol her wish. Sheldon ended up nominating Minh-Ly alongside Carol for eviction. Hira won the POV that week and chose not to use it.

On March 23, executive producer/showrunner Erin Brock informed houseguests of the devastating news that due to precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Big Brother Canada 8 was coming to an early end. Houseguests travel home had been arranged for them and they would have one last day in the Big Brother Canada house. Minh-Ly was the penultimate departure on March 24 at a time not revealed by a timecard.

Minh-Ly made a couple of bad moves during her time on Big Brother Canada 8. The first was campaigning for Nico when that was a lost cause to begin with. Another bad move was telling Vanessa about her plans to get rid of Kyle. I will cut Minh-Ly some slack on this one, however, because she had no idea Vanessa was aligned with Kyle. All these moves did was enlarge the target on her back unnecessarily.

Her last bad move was not toning down her personality. Normally, people with personalities as big as hers, end up leaving early. Minh-Ly was certainly tracking that way if Big Brother Canada 8 would have continued on.
