With Big Brother Canada 8 on the horizon, we decided to look back at previous seasons. One of the first things typically on the forefront of fans’ minds is returning players. So, we decided to make a list of 5 players we would like to see return for a future season of Big Brother Canada.

The criteria are simple: you can only have played once and not won the show. It could also just be someone the author liked, thought was a good player, could’ve gone down as a legend if not for a twist, or someone who simply needs a shot at redemption. This entry looks at why Arlie Shaban from Big Brother Canada 2 should return.

Why Arlie Shaban Should Return to Big Brother Canada

First of all, Arlie’s antics in the house were comical and it was nice to have that to interrupt some of the gameplay. Second, when you look at Arlie’s game, it was a very intriguing one. He aggressively played both sides of the house until he flipped on the First Five alliance.

Arlie was among the first five houseguests to move into the Big Brother Canada 2 house along with Andrew Gordon, Sarah Miller, Kenny Brain, and Sabrina Abbate. They immediately formed an alliance called the First Five. The First Five was able to control the first 4 evictions of the game, evicting Anick Gervais, Kyle Shore, Paul Jackson, and Ika Wong. However, Arlie knew his future wasn’t with the First Five and plotted to turn on them as soon as he felt it was in his best interest to stay with them.

In a twist, Canada was given HOH for week 5 and fans got to vote for two people to be nominated for eviction. They chose to nominate Andrew and Sabrina. Arlie saw this as his opening to flip away from the First Five and took the opportunity to begin working with outsiders Heather Decksheimer, Adel Elseri, Jon Pardy, and Neda Kalantar, playing both sides of the house. Jon won the POV that week and chose not to use it. Arlie helped seal his former ally Andrew’s fate and at the live eviction, Andrew was evicted 7-2.

Week 6 brought a double eviction. On the front end, Heather won HOH and Arlie officially defected from The First Five, joining the Sloppy Seconds alliance with Heather, Adel, Jon, Neda, and Allison White. In the double eviction, the Sloppy Seconds were able to take out Sarah and Kenny. Arlie won a key POV on the back end of the double that sealed Kenny’s fate.

In week 7, Jon won HOH and nominated Rachelle Diamond alongside Sabrina for eviction. Jon also won the POV that week and it looked like Arlie would live to see another week. However, Neda felt that Arlie and Jon were getting too close and wanted it to be broken up. So, she convinced Jon to turn on his ally Arlie.

At the POV ceremony, Jon used the POV to save Rachelle from eviction and named Arlie the replacement nominee, to Arlie’s shock. Allison then shocked everyone by using a secret POV (that she had found the previous week in the secret War Room) on Sabrina. Needing yet another replacement nominee, Jon nominated Adel alongside Arlie. Arlie was evicted in a 5-0 vote, making him the first member of the Big Brother Canada 2 jury.

The first layer of why Arlie should return is his antics. To make a good season, you need good characters in addition to good players, Arlie provides the character part with the aforementioned antics. The other layer is Arlie the player. He was a solid player who could have possibly won Big Brother Canada 2 had he made it to the end. I think if given the chance to return, he’d be able to rectify the mistakes he made and get there.
