Big Brother Should Increase Its Prize Money and Here’s Why

On Survivor: Winners at War, Survivor is upping the ante by awarding the winner $2,000,000 instead of the normal $1,000,000. It is time for Big Brother to respond by increasing the prize money on their show.

Survivor is celebrating its milestone by pitting 20 former winners against each other on Survivor: Winners at War. For this season, CBS has increased the prize from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000. This is very fitting since 20 of the greatest players Survivor has ever seen are returning to the game. With this in mind, we feel it is time for Big Brother to up the ante and increase the current prize from $500,000.

When Big Brother first began giving out the $500,000 grand prize, there were fewer players and fewer days in the game.  When the show first began there were usually only 12 houseguests per season and a season would typically last around 80 days. All of that has changed as of Big Brother 16.

Starting with Big Brother 16, each season has had at least 16 houseguests and has lasted around 99 days. Having to go through 99 days of the mental stress that the show puts you through, houseguests deserve a bigger payout at the end. There is no game on television as mentally taxing as Big Brother.

In addition to the additional 3 weeks of gameplay and stress, there is also the factor of taxes. California has a big income tax that really takes a good chunk out of whatever the winnings and other prizes a player earns throughout the course of the season. With the cost of living going up, that’s another good reason to increase the prize money.
