With the 2010’s in the rear-view mirror, we decided to take a look back at every season of Big Brother from the previous decade. In our look back, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the decade.

With the 2010’s now over, we decided to reflect on every season of Big Brother that took place last decade. There have been many twists over the course of the decade. So, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the 2010’s. This will include both the Celebrity and Over the Top versions of Big Brother.

Now, these twists do not have to have originated in the 2010’s nor been effective. They just have to have shock value. Number 3 is The Day 1 eviction.

No. 3: The Day 1 eviction

Before Big Brother 14, nobody had ever been evicted on Day 1. Since then, Day 1 evictions have happened 4 times. Each time it has happened differently. Each time it just stinks more and more because the person who gets evicted on Day 1 never even got a chance to play the game really.

The first time a Day 1 eviction occurred was in Big Brother 14. In Big Brother 14, Britney Haynes, Dan Gheesling, Mike Malin and Janelle Pierzina returned to the game as coaches and selected 3 players they would mentor for the season. The coach whose team finished in last place during the first HOH Competition would have to evict 1 of their players. Dan’s team lost the competition and Dan chose to evict Jodi Rollins.

The second time this twist occurred was Big Brother 18. In this case, the eviction actually occurred on Day 2. Like in Big Brother 14, there were 4 returnees (Da’Vonne Rogers, Nicole Franzel, Frank Eudy, and James Huling) who chose teams of 3 newbies. However, unlike Big Brother 14, these returnees were full fledged players in the game.

First, there was an immunity competition where the winning team would be safe for the week. Team Unicorn, led by James, won the competition and was safe for the first 2 weeks. The losing 3 teams competed in the “Hit the Road” Competition. The loser of part 3 would be evicted.

Category 4, led by Frank, won the 1st part of the competition and earned safety. Team Big Sister, led by Da’Vonne, won the 2nd part of the competition and earned safety. This meant Team Freakazoids, led by Nicole, would lose a team member. In part 3, Glenn Garcia was narrowly defeated by Corey Brooks, making him the 2nd person to fall victim to this twist.

The third occurrence of this twist was in Big Brother 19. The theme of the season was the Summer of Temptation. Each temptation offered would come with a consequence should it be accepted. The first temptation happened on Day 1 when houseguests were offered $25,000. Kevin Schlehuber took the temptation and as a consequence, Big Brother 18 star Paul Abrahamian returned to the game at the cost of one of the newbies.

Paul was allowed to give 8 people friendship bracelets, keeping them safe. The remaining 8 would compete for safety. Paul chose to keep Kevin, Raven Walton, Jason Dent, Mark Jansen, Elena Davies, Jessica Graf, Ramses Soto, and Dominique Cooper safe from eviction.

In the safety competition, players had to stand on a trapeze bar while holding onto a rope. The last person standing would be safe. Those that fell off had to pick an apple from a serpent. If a houseguest picked 1 of 3 poison apples, they’d be one of the nominees. Cody won safety while Cameron Heard, Jillian Parker, and Christmas Abbott picked the poison apples and became the nominees.

The nominees were given a choice of whether they wanted to face an eviction vote or compete in an eviction competition to determine their fate. In a 2-1 vote, they chose to face an eviction vote. Cameron was the only one to vote for the competition. At the eviction, Cameron was evicted 8-3-2 over Jillian and Christmas. On Day 30, Cameron was given the chance to return via the Battle Back Competition. However, he lost to Cody in the final round. This made Cameron the 3rd person to fall victim to the Day 1 eviction.

The fourth and most recent occurrence of this twist happened on Big Brother 21. On Day 1, houseguests were allowed to run for Camp Director. Jackson Michie, Cliff Hogg III, Jessica Milagros, and David Alexander ran for Camp Director. Michie won the Camp Director vote 10-4-1-1.

Michie was then given the power to banish 4 houseguests. Michie chose to banish David, Cliff, Jessica, and Kemi Fakunle. Then, the 4 banished houseguests would compete to return to the house. Cliff, Jessica, and Kemi returned to the house, leaving David banished.

David re-entered the house on Day 15 as part of the Camp Comeback twist. However, he wasn’t a full-fledged player. He would have to earn his status as a full-fledged player in a competition. He lost the competition to return on Day 30 and remained evicted. This made David the 4th person to fall victim to this twist.

The shock value here is in seeing someone go home that early. Usually, the first person evicted gets about 2 weeks in the Big Brother house before they leave. So having someone leave on Day 1 or 2 is certainly shocking and often creates a lot of sympathy for the person evicted amongst viewers.
