With the 2010’s in the rear-view mirror, we decided to take a look back at every season of Big Brother from the previous decade. In our look back, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the decade.

With the 2010’s now over, we decided to reflect on every season of Big Brother that took place last decade. There have been many twists over the course of the decade. So, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the 2010’s. This will include both the Celebrity and Over the Top versions of Big Brother.

Now, these twists do not have to have originated in the 2010’s nor been effective. They just have to have shock value. Number 6 is America’s control over Big Brother: Over the Top.

No. 6: America’s control over Big Brother: Over the Top

Big Brother: Over the Top aired a week after Big Brother 18 ended. This season would also be much different than a summer version of the show.  America was given much more power than before. America has also never had this much power since.

America voted for the Have-Nots every week. The 3 houseguests who received the highest number of votes would become have-nots for the week. Have-nots lasted from weeks 2-6.

America also voted for someone to receive America’s Care Package. From weeks 2-8, the houseguest who received the highest number of votes would receive America’s Care Package. America’s Care Package contained a special power. This power ranged from the ability to save a friend to the ability to eliminate 3 eviction votes to immunity until the final 4 if they completed a special challenge.

America was also given the power to name a 3rd nominee. The houseguest with the highest number of votes would become the 3rd nominee for the week. No houseguest could be nominated by America in back to back weeks. Additionally, if America’s nominee was vetoed, there would be no replacement nominee and only the HOH’s 2 nominees would face eviction.

America was also given a vote at the live eviction each week. The nominee with the highest number of votes would receive America’s vote to evict. This eviction vote would be counted in the tally like any other eviction vote.

Finally, America got to vote for the winner. The last time America had gotten to vote for the winner was in Big Brother 1. America got to vote for which of the 3 finalists they felt should win the season. The finalist with the highest number of votes would win Big Brother: Over the Top.

This is shocking because, as stated earlier, America having this much power in a season is unprecedented. They have not had this much power before or since. They only part of this I am not a fan of is America getting to vote for the winner. That should be up to a jury of evicted players. They know more about what went down than we do from just watching even on a season where everything is on the live feeds. The other problem with America voting is that it would simply turn into a popularity contest instead of who actually played the best game.
