With the 2010’s in the rear-view mirror, we decided to take a look back at every season of Big Brother from the previous decade. In our look back, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the decade.

With the 2010’s now over, we decided to reflect on every season of Big Brother that took place last decade. There have been many twists over the course of the decade. So, we decided to rank the 6 most shocking twists of the 2010’s. This will include both the Celebrity and Over the Top versions of Big Brother.

Now, these twists do not have to have originated in the 2010’s nor been effective. They just have to have shock value. Number 5 is The BB App Store from Big Brother 20.

No. 5: The BB App Store (Big Brother 20)

The main twist of Big Brother 20 was the BB App Store. Each week, America would vote for the most and least trending houseguests. The most trending houseguest would receive a power app, which would give the person who received it an advantage in the game. The least trending houseguest would receive a crap app, which would give the person who received it a punishment.

In week 1, Samantha “Sam” Bledsoe was voted the most trending houseguest and Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat was voted the least trending. Sam received a bonus life power app that allowed her the chance to return to the game should she be evicted in the first 3 weeks. If it went unused in the first 3 weeks, the 4th houseguest evicted would automatically be given a chance to return.

For his crap app, Fessy picked the Hamazon crap app. For his punishment, Fessy would routinely be delivered packages of ham, which he must eat on arrival. However, since Fessy is Muslim, a vegetarian ham substitute was provided.

In week 2, Tyler Crispen was voted the most trending houseguest and Rachel Swindler was voted the least trending. Tyler received The Cloud for his power app. This gave Tyler the power to make himself immune during the nomination or veto ceremony of his choice over the course of the next 8 weeks.

For her crap app, Rachel received the Yell! crap app. For Rachel’s crap app punishment, an angry reviewer would come into the house for the next 24 hours at random intervals and give houseguests feedback on their existence… loudly.

In week 3, Bayleigh Dayton was voted the most trending houseguest and Haleigh Broucher was voted the least trending. Bayleigh received the Identity Theft power app. This allowed Bayleigh to secretly replace the HOH’s nominations with 2 of her own.

For her crap app, Haleigh got the Read It! crap app. For her punishment, Haleigh would have to wear a costume and read Hamlet in a Shakespearean accent at various points throughout the week as prompted by Big Brother. The punishment would continue until the entire play had been read.

The shock value here isn’t so much in the App Store or the powers themselves. The shock value rested in how poorly they were used for the most part. These power apps led to 2 massive blunders.

The first blunder came from the bonus life app. Since Sam wasn’t evicted in the first 3 weeks, the opportunity to return the game went to the 4th evicted houseguests. At the 4th live eviction, Kaitlyn Herman was evicted 9-1 vote. All Kaitlyn had to do to re-enter the game was knock down and re assemble a 6-piece puzzle of herself in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. However, she was unable to do so and to this day, this is considered one of the biggest blunders in Big Brother history.

The second blunder came from Bayleigh’s Identity Theft power app. In week 5, Bayleigh was the HOH and nominated Rachel alongside Brett Robinson for eviction. In an ill-fated attempt to gain Rachel’s trust that she was only a pawn, Bayleigh told Rachel about her power app. Naturally, Rachel ran this information straight to her Level 6 alliance. Level 6 decided they would rather keep Brett than Rachel that week, so Rachel was evicted 5-4 at the live eviction that week.

In week 6, Angela won HOH and the remainder of Level 6 targeted Bayleigh to flush out her power app. To make Bayleigh feel safe, Angela nominated Scottie Salton and Angela “Rockstar” Lantry for eviction. However, Haleigh won the H@cker Competition that week and removed Scottie from the block, replacing him with Tyler. When Angela won the POV that week, she used it to save Tyler and named Bayleigh the replacement nominee since Bayleigh couldn’t use her power app to save herself at that point. At the live eviction, Bayleigh was evicted 6-1 with her power app going to waste.
