Big Brother 21: Jackson Michie’s journey to the final 3

As Big Brother 21 comes to a close, we take a look at how each member of the final 3 got to where they are. First up is Jackson Michie.

Out of the final 3 houseguests on Big Brother 21, Jackson Michie has arguably played the best game out there. His resume is far and away the best out of anybody left. However, fans haven’t exactly taking a liking to Michie as they have other players similar to him. It isn’t hard to see why either. Michie’s behavior and allegations of preferential treatment from production towards Michie have soured his image and it is hard for fans to get behind someone like that.

Michie’s Big Brother game

Michie is easily the most dynamic player we have had on Big Brother 21. He started off the game strong by taking the title of Camp Director. This power allowed to banish 4 houseguests (with 1 being out of the game for the time being). Unfortunately, Michie used the power in a way that drew allegations of discrimination. He chose to banish David Alexander, Jessica Milagros, Kemi Fakunle, and Cliff Hogg III. David ended up being the one to not find his way back in, meaning he remained banished.

After winning the title of Camp Director, Michie formed an alliance of 8 (Gr8ful) that dominated the game for the first several weeks. This allowed Michie to lay back and not have to win competitons. Not long after his Camp Director win, he fell in love with Holly Allen (after dumping Kathryn “Kat” Dunn) and the two became a showmance.

In week 3, cracks had emerged in Gr8ful and Michie formed a new alliance called the Six Shooters. The Six Shooters blindsided Cliff by evicting him over Nicole Anthony. Their intention in blindsiding Cliff was to send a message to their real targets Nick Maccarone and Isabella “Bella” Wang.

However, Cliff returned to the game in the Camp Comeback twist mere minutes after he had been evicted. Then, things took a turn for the worse in Michie’s game when Cliff won Head of Household. Cliff chose to nominate Michie for eviction against his closest ally, Jack Matthews. After Michie won the Power of Veto to save himself, Bella was nominated in his place. Christie Murphy had made a deal with Cliff so that Christie wouldn’t have to use her Panic Power. Bella was then evicted in an 8-2 vote over Jack, leaving the Six Shooters intact.

On Day 44, Michie’s Big Brother game was turned upside down when Jack turned on him and he lost all his allies except for Holly. Michie’s game being blown up by Jack nearly resulted in Sam Smith staying and Kat being evicted. However, things changed at the last minute and Sam was unanimously evicted. However, Michie’s game was still in shambles.

Things went from bad to worse for Michie when Jessica won Head of Household and nominated him against Jack. Jessica also won the Power of Veto that week, leaving nominations the same. However, Jack was evicted in a 6-2 vote.

Tommy Bracco won Head of Household after Jack’s eviction and wanted to get the remnants of the Six Shooters to get back together. However, Michie was uninterested but played along to keep himself off the block.

Then, Michie went on a tear in competitions, winning 3 consecutive HOH’s and 2 Power of Veto’s in a 6-week span. It was during this time that MIchie and Holly cemented a final four deal with Cliff and Nicole. In his first two HOH reigns, his target was Christie. However, he ended up getting Analyse Talavera and Jessica Milagros evicted after his plans changed.

His final four deal paid off on Big Brother‘s double eviction night. On a competition he wasn’t eligible to compete in, Nicole won HOH and repaid Michie by keeping him safe despite a golden opportunity to evict him.

However, Michie’s 3rd HOH reign nearly turned into a disaster. He initially nominated Tommy and Cliff with the intention of targeting Tommy. When Nicole won the Power of Veto and used it to save Cliff, Michie was forced to nominate his showmance Holly.

With Holly on the block, Cliff and Nicole considered turning on Holly. However, Michie overheard Tommy making a deal with Cliff and Nicole and used this to create a lie about Tommy in order to save Holly. Ultimately, Michie’s lie had no effect on the outcome of the eviction. Holly was spared after she made a deal with Cliff and Nicole to throw the HOH and POV Competitions.

At the final 4, Nicole won Head of Household and nominated Michie alongside Holly. However, Michie won the crucial Power of Veto to save himself and used his sole vote to evict Cliff. On Sunday night’s episode, Michie won part 1 of the 3-part final HOH Competition and advanced to part 3. Part 3 will air on Wednesday night’s finale.

Michie’s Big Brother 21 controversies

A long list of controversies have prevented Michie from being a popular houseguest this season. It all started on the premiere when Michie chose to banish David, Kemi, Jessica, and Cliff. This drew allegations that Michie was discriminating against race and age. David and Kemi are both African-american. Jessica is a Latina and Cliff was the oldest person in the house at age 53.

Michie again drew outrage from fans after fans felt he was receiving preferential treatment from production. This includes cheating the have not rules. Despite being a have not in week 4, Michie was seen on the live feeds stuffing his pockets with food and then going behind the shower and eating it out of view. In the past, players have been punished for breaking rules regarding food restriction. However, Michie didn’t receive any punishment.

I am honestly skeptical regarding the allegations of discrimination against Michie due to David, Jessica, and Cliff having run against him for Camp Director. While Michie may act like a pompous jerk on the live feeds, there has been nothing in his behavior to suggest he discriminates against others.

However, cheating the have not rules is completely inexcusable and should’ve resulted in some sort of punishment coming from production. In Big Brother 8, Jen Johnson received a penalty vote for breaking her food restriction. Michie should’ve received a similar punishment.

Michie should’ve been the breakout star of Big Brother 21 but because of the allegations against him it is very hard to find him likeable enough to root for. With that being said, we wish Michie luck as he goes for the $500,000 on finale night.
