Big Brother Players On Other CBS Reality Shows: Alison Irwin on The Amazing Race 5

Over the years, Big Brother houseguests have appeared on other CBS reality shows such as Survivor and The Amazing Race. What some may not know is that Big Brother 4’s Alison Irwin was the first to make such a crossover. Alison appeared on The Amazing Race 5 with her then boyfriend Donny Patrick.

On Big Brother 4, Alison Irwin was known for her scheming and plotting. She also flirted with a lot of the men in the house that season. This upset her then-boyfriend Donny Patrick. The duo joined The Amazing Race 5 attempting to solve their relationship issues.

The Amazing Race 5 leg 1: Alison & Donny Triumph

At the starting line of The Amazing Race 5, teams were instructed to fly to Montevideo, Uruguay. From there they would head to Punta del Este by bus and find The Hand in the Sand. Alison and Donny started bickering on the way to Los Angeles International airport. Donny asked Alison to go right but Alison yelled at him in response, saying there was a double turning lane. Alison then told Donny to shut up after Donny made a remark about how they had already started fighting.

The teams had to board one of two flights. However, the flight that left later arrived in Uruguay sooner due to a shorter layover. Alison & Donny figured this out and ended up being the 1st team on the flight that arrived sooner.

Once they arrived in Uruguay, Alison & Donny were on the first bus to Punta del Este. As a result, they made it to The Hand In The Sand in 3rd place. There, they got their next clue which instructed them to go to Gorriti Island where they would be staying for the night. At Gorriti Island, they would pick one of three departure times that told them when they would leave in the morning.

On the way to Gorritti Island, Alison got impatient with Donny where the ferry to the island was. This led Alison to exclaim she was clearly more intelligent than Donny in a confessional the team did together. Alison & Donny got on the first ferry to Gorritti Island. This led them to getting the first departure time at 8:00 am.

At 8:00 am, Alison & Donny departed Gorritti Island for the Punta del Este dock. At the dock, they had to search for their next clue. Alison & Donny found the clue 1st and were instructed to go to a meat warehouse in Maldonado, Uruguay. They got on the first bus to Maldonado along with 2 other teams.

Alison & Donny arrived at the meat warehouse in 1st place. At the meat warehouse, teams were instructed to carry a 55-pound slab of meat half of a mile. It was to be dropped off at La Rosada Carneceria where they got their next clue.

The Race’s first ever yield also appeared at the meat warehouse. A yield allowed one team to slow down another. The yielded team would have to turn over an hourglass and wait for it to run out before advancing. However, Alison & Donny elected not to use the yield.

Alison & Donny got to La Rosada Carneceria in 1st place. The clue they received at the Carneceria instructed them to go across the street from the Blue & White Hotel in Punta del Este.

On the way to the Blue & White Hotel, Alison & Donny got into another argument. This time over Donny momentarily forgetting where he put the clue. Donny responds to Alison by saying he wished Alison was not so controlling. Alison responded by saying she loves controlling Donny.

Once they got to the hotel, they went into the casino room of the hotel before realizing they had missed their clue.  They then went across the street and reached the clue 2nd. Later, twins Kami & Karli and married parents Chip & Kim would miss the clue. As a result, those two teams completed part of the detour without even realizing it. This would come into play later.

The clue Alison & Donny picked up across the street from the hotel had them choose one of two tasks. Their choice was play roulette with 20 chips. They would get their next clue if they won a game. If they ran out of chips, they would have to do the other side of the detour anyway. The other option was to go to the top of a high rise and travel by zip-line while hanging 210 feet above the ground. Once they got to the other side of the high rise, they would take another zip-line 18 stories down to the pool.

Alison & Donny chose to perform the zip-lining task. Alison & Donny finished the detour in 1st place. Their next clue instructed them to go to the pit stop. The pit stop was Casa Pueblo in Punta Ballena, Uruguay.

Chip & Kim and Kami & Karli completed the roulette task quickly. As a result, they initially arrived 1st and 2nd respectively. However, those two teams missed the clue across from the Blue & White Hotel as mentioned earlier. They were forced to go back and get the clue they missed before being able to check in.

As a result of these errors, Alison & Donny arrived at the pit stop 1st. For winning the first leg of The Amazing Race 5, Alison & Donny were awarded a vacation to Hawaii.

The Amazing Race 5 leg 2: tragedy for Alison & Donny

Alison & Donny started the 2nd leg of The Amazing Race 5 in first place. Their first clue instructed them to go to Shake Mega Disco. At the disco, they had to go to the dance floor. On the dance floor, they were to rip open a ball filled with foam to find their next clue. The trick was, not all of the balls had a clue inside.

Alison & Donny started bickering on the way to the Disco. It started when Alison told Donny she didn’t know she was going and to find Montevideo on the map. Donny responded by telling her to shut up and he was doing it.

In a confessional, Donny said was pushing them through. He also added it was helping them go faster and not make mistakes. Alison commented that yelling was their way of communicating and they were getting the job done.

Alison & Donny ended up arriving 2nd at the Disco. They got their clue quickly and were instructed to travel by ferry to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Once they were in Buenos Aires, they had to find Evita Perón’s grave in Recoleta Cemetery.

On the way to the ferry, Alison questioned Donny’s use of a compass. Donny responded by telling her if she wasn’t blond, she wouldn’t be so stupid.  Despite this, they made the ferry with all other teams.

Alison & Donny ended up finding the clue in 5th place. The next clue was the detour. In this detour, the first option was to walk 8 dogs 1.5 miles along a marked course. The course began right outside the cemetery.

The second option was to go to Teatro Lola Membrives. Once there, teams would be given a program with a male tango dancer. They had to find the dancer in their program and hand him the program before they got their next clue.

The catch was that all the dancers looked similar. If they picked the wrong dancer, he would take their program from them. If this happened, teams would have to get another program and try again until they found the correct one.

Alison & Donny initially chose to do the dog walking. The bickering started early. Alison wanted Donny to take her backpack. In response, Donny told Alison to shut up and that he was reading the map they were given.

Then, Donny led them in the wrong direction after he misread the map. Alison got mad at Donny, yelling at him for leading them in the wrong direction. Donny got upset with Alison for getting mad at him and not helping the situation. Alison & Donny soon decided to switch tasks and do the tango challenge.

On the way, Alison & Donny’s bickering continued. Alison told Donny if she told saw a check point on the way, she was going to flip out. Donny responded by saying that was nothing new and she doesn’t scare him. Donny also told her she was an embarrassment. Alison responded by calling him a loser.

Once they arrived at the tango challenge, it only took them one attempt to complete the task. Their next clue instructed them to travel to La Estancia La Invernada in San Antonio de Areco. They could choose to travel by either bus or taxi to get there. Alison & Donny chose to take the bus to save money.

However, the bus proved to be slow as it made multiple stops along the way. Alison got mad at Donny again. This time she chastised him for making poor decisions and told him she was wrong to not control him. This led Donny to call her psycho.

Eventually, Alison & Donny decided to get off at one of the stops along the way and take a taxi. When they finally got to La Invernada, they had fallen to last place. At La Invernada, they were faced with a roadblock. Donny elected to perform the roadblock for their team.

In the roadblock, Donny had to enter a corral. In the corral, he had to remove a bandana from the neck of a cow. By the time Donny got the job done, it was too late. The next clue instructed them to go La Porteña, the pit stop for that leg of the race.

The pair could not even get to the pit stop without one last bit of fighting. Alison asked Donny to not get so far in front of her. Donny responded by telling Alison she had disappointed him severely.

The pair arrived at the pit stop in last place and were eliminated from The Amazing Race 5. In their post-elimination reflection, Alison noted she and Donny didn’t have the healthiest relationship.

Meanwhile, Donny commented that dealing with Alison was the hardest part of the race for him. He also wished he had run the race with anyone else. He further commented about how the race taught him to re-define his love for Alison.

Sometime after the race, Alison & Donny broke up. Alison was later selected to appear on Big Brother 7: All-Stars. Alison would be the first person evicted on Big Brother All-Stars by a vote of 8-2.
