Celebrity Big Brother: Writer urges show to cast multiple gay celebrities

Celebrity Big Brother starts up again soon and one online writer is urging the producers to make one specific casting change. Rather than a token gay celebrity, he would like to see multiple gay celebrities in the cast.
The return of Celebrity Big Brother comes to CBS in January 2019. It’s a chance for a new group of celebrities to battle it out in the reality competition. The network has already revealed a full schedule for the winter installment. The promotion of the show has also led to an online post by one writer who feels that the show needs multiple gay characters.
Celebrity Big Brother casting change?
Online writer and producer Joe Reid posted a poignant statement on his Twitter account today (December 27). His request was simple, challenging the network and its producers to “cast two gay celebrities” on the new season of Celebrity Big Brother. He finished the tweet by calling them “cowards,” which may serve as his opinion that the request will go unanswered.

On many seasons of the show, it has appeared like producers have placed a token gay cast member inside the BB house. It further appeared that way when Ross Mathews was a member of the first USA BB Celeb cast. Whether it has been intentional or not, there have been numerous posts on social media asking for more than just a token representation of sexual preferences or races within the game.
A checkered history on the show
While Big Brother, as a show, has done a good job at furthering conversations taking place in society, there have been some really rough moments in the history of the show. It wasn’t that long ago when Big Brother 15 was dealing with homophobic remarks from people in the house. A cast member on Big Brother 18 was also discovered to have posted homophobic comments on his Twitter account.

A lot of former houseguests and fans of the show would certainly be excited if the program followed the suggestion that Joe Reid has posted on social media. It might be too late for Celebrity Big Brother 2, though, as it’s possible that production already has a set cast list. Maybe everyone will be surprised and it will already include two gay celebrities.
