Rebecca Jane of Big Brother UK has had a lot to say about mental health recently. And one of her statements slams BBUK for lack of support.

On June 21, Rebecca Jane of Big Brother UK took to Instagram to share her mental health story. It was an effort to put an end to the “stigma” that surrounds things like depression and taking antidepressants. However, this was not the only thing she had to say about mental health. Jane turned her sights on Big Brother and their alleged lack of support for those who are dealing with mental health problems.

According to the Daily Mail, Jane has recently revealed that following her time in the Big Brother house, she did not receive any support from the producers. She also slammed the show for not providing the contestants with sufficient aftercare. These accusations are a big deal.

Rebecca Jane’s decision to speak out against Big Brother UK comes on the heels of the death of a fellow reality star. Sophie Gradon, of Love Island‘s, attempted suicide this week. The two women were reportedly friends. Jane has decided to use Gradon’s death as a way to address issues surrounding mental health support.

Rebecca Jane talks about Big Brother’s lack of mental health support

Speaking to The Sun, Jane revealed that before going into the Big Brother house, she saw a psychiatrist, who told her she should not go into the house. It was not something she needed for her mental health. However, when it came time for the show to choose people for the season, she got the all-clear and was allowed to participate.

Rebecca Jane says that she does not believe that the producers should have even let her participate in Big Brother. She bases that opinion on her psychiatric evaluation. The reality star said that after being a part of the show, her mental health actually got worse. That included suicide attempts and intense feelings of paranoia. She shared that although she was promised aftercare from production, the show “failed to deliver.”

According to Jane, if it was left up to the people at Big Brother, she would have only received an aftercare call a month after the show ended, as well as one a year later. However, she admitted that within a week of leaving the house, she asked for a call because of how poorly she was doing.

Big Brother UK responds to Rebecca Jane calling them out

Big Brother responded to Rebecca Jane’s comments. They addressed her accusations about the lack of mental health support. Production told The Sun that the show does, in fact, take “contributor welfare extremely seriously and is proud of the robust assessment and welfare systems in place.” They also said that prior to entering the house, there is a rigorous process that contestants must go through. There is also a dedicated team on hand to help during and after productions.

While it is certainly important to address issues surrounding mental health, it seems as if Big Brother is, in fact, trying to help their participants throughout their time with the show, as well as directly after they leave the house. While Rebecca Jane may not be happy with the aftercare that the show provided to her, it sounds as if they did try to help. At least in some small way.
