Big Brother is about to have its 22nd season in the United States. Was the show really better in the past, or is that a myth that some fans have perpetuated over the years?

Big Brother 20 is coming on fast. The latest installment of the reality competition show will hit this summer, with high expectations along for the ride. There were some issues with Big Brother 19, causing some viewers to complain about it on social media. Will a new cast be able to address those complaints? Or is it not possible to deal with the romanticizing taking place?

Were past Big Brother seasons really better?

Lately, each new season of Big Brother has also come with complaints from some viewers. An example would be the BB19 cast, which had Paul Abrahamian as a returning houseguest. It upset some viewers, with some stating that it was unfair. Fair or not, Paul ended up making it all the way to the final two. During the season finale, another controversial houseguest won the show.

Does the perfect Big Brother cast exist?

No matter what Allison Gradnor does with her casting decisions, it seems that someone ends up unhappy with the cast. She is already working hard on the BB20 cast, with an announcement expected in late June. As she recently stated, this will be an entirely new cast. Will the lack of returning houseguests help the program, or will it lead to a different type of complaints?

Looking forward to summer 2018 season

Often, it seems that fans look more favorably on past casts, even if they weren’t deemed interesting at the time. There is some recency bias at play, with viewers forgetting about problems of the past. Several times, houseguests have been expelled from the game. Other times, houseguests have complained about even being in the house. The first season of Celebrity Big Brother showed how rough it can be when people want to quit the game.

Rather than worry about the past, CBS viewers should just enjoy the new season. Sure, there will be some familiar competitions, but does that really matter in the whole scheme of things? Isn’t it enjoyable enough that the show is back, providing weeks of summer fun? It should be.
