The Celebrity Big Brother ratings were quite good this winter. It could lead to CBS producing a second season of the USA version of the reality competition.

When the Celebrity Big Brother season finale aired on February 25, it had to go up against the Winter Olympics on NBC and The Bachelor on ABC. For The Bachelor, this was also the Women Tell All episode. Typically, that is a hit in the ratings for ABC, but this year, Big Brother beat it in audience numbers. Those Celebrity Big Brother ratings are something CBS had to enjoy.

A report by TVLine.com stated that the Celebrity Big Brother finale drew 5.2 million total viewers and a 1.4 rating in the key demographic. That was an uptick from the previous episode and it gave the show a second-place standing for the night (behind the Winter Olympics). As for ABC and The Bachelor, the episode drew an estimated 4.2 million viewers and a 1.1 rating.

Will show overcome CBB USA end?

There were a lot of Big Brother fans who were frustrated with the way that the first season of CBB USA came to an end. When Marissa Jaret Winokur ended up winning the $250,000 cash prize, it left a lot of viewers speechless. Despite how nice she was in the house, most fans felt that it was Ross Mathews who should have won the season. He was the only reason she even made it that far. Consequently, some people did say they wouldn’t watch the show again. It’s worth mentioning, though, that this happened after the Big Brother 19 finale as well. A lot of people were displeased Josh Martinez won, and as a result, it led to negative reactions on social media.

For CBS, Celebrity Big Brother was a test, with the network trying to figure out if the concept would work in the United States. While producers had to edit how some of the show was done, on the whole, it really ended up working.

Some viewers, understandably so, were frustrated at the level of celebrities that played the game. It should have been assumed that Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington weren’t going to play, though. Going forward, CBS could work on adding more people with an attachment to the network. Having contestants who have starred on CBS shows could work. Having someone from Survivor or The Amazing Race might also work.

Looking forward to Big Brother 20

One big takeaway from the first season of Celebrity Big Brother is how many people were discussing the reality competition show during its offseason. Social media was buzzing, people were tuning in to CBS, and the network was able to lure viewers away from ABC and NBC. Now, there is even more buzz about Big Brother 20 this summer. Additionally, fans don’t have to wait quite as long for the next cast announcement. These are all wins for CBS.

Also, viewers who didn’t enjoy Celebrity Big Brother will likely appreciate Big Brother 20 even more. With the typical contestants likely back in the house, it may be even more enjoyable than a typical summer. That’s also a big win for CBS. Despite having some flaws, the Celebrity Big Brother ratings prove that this experiment was a success.
